Many of us skip meals most of the time to lose weight but, the question lies in the fact whether it actually contributes to the weight loss or not. Learning some background facts about the same can help you crack the problem and find the right solution to it within no time.
# 1: The Seeming weight loss
As the old saying goes, everything that glitters is not gold. When you skip your meals, especially breakfast it may seem as if you are losing weight in the beginning. But in reality, your body will burn up the existing fat for that day’s activity, but what you fail to understand is that it will lead to over-consumption of food in the next round, more like a rat rummaging through the garbage bag in search of food, which is quite an unhealthy practice. And eventually this will lead to weight gain rather than weight loss so, in short, your attempts will turn out to be futile and leave you to bitter regrets for sacrificing your quality meal.
# 2: Chronic inflammation
Skipping meals may damage your cells’ ability to recover and fight. It results in chronic inflammation, which would, in turn, affect insulin sensitivity or even cause heart attacks, arthritis or cancer. This is all caused due to metabolic impairment or the inability of the metabolic activities take place normally. It has the chances to increase type 2 diabetes and obesity as well.
# 3: Go Gone Nutrients
The lesser the food you eat or more the meals that you skip means the lesser the nutrient content in your body. So where is your energy source? This will lead you to crave for foods with high sugar content and high fat content and the truth is that you will end up consuming it. This means that the calories you intake will be more than you actually need and further it contributes to you gaining weight. In short, as low nutrients means low mental efficiency and low emotional stability, you might have to reconsider skipping your meal.
# 4: Sleep
It says if you have eight hours of sleep you will lose weight. So try weighing this, a sweet, comfortable sleep dreaming your own fancy or sacrificing your favorite food for the sake of losing weight which would eventually lead to a disheartening effect as it would result in the actual gaining of weight. I personally would go with the latter choice after reading all the above.
# 5: Stressed?
Most of the people skip meals when they are stressed or “engrossed” deeply in finishing off a work. But remember that the adrenal glands will produce stress hormone or cortisol causing you to increase the chances of getting a fat belly. Try doing some meditation and breathing exercise as it will control your stress level as well as your hot temperament. Sleeping even helps to reduce your stress level which would otherwise trigger your stress hormone.
# 6: Appearance
What if I tell you that skipping meals will lead to having a disastrous effect on your appearance and skin as well. When everyone is trying to show up the best what if your attempts to have a good figure will eventually lead to have loose fats, a pot belly and an ugly skin and appearance altogether. It is the worst of all scenarios is it not? The reality is tough to accept, but that indeed is a truth, an accepted fact with several researchers done.
# 7: Acidity
Skipping meals will cause acidic reactions to form in your stomach, which would be painful right from the start. When it worsens it will reach beyond a point of control where you would turn out having ulcers in your stomach. This would mean no proper choice of food in the future as well as severe pain and mental trauma that follows due to the same. It is not that light as it sounds as it may, even cause hernia as well as acid reflux which will cause the acids in your stomach move up to your esophagus.
So, considering the above aspects altogether the wise decision to make would be to control your diet on the whole rather than skipping meals. And if you are a person who gets all cranky when you skip meals, then do not even let the word “skip” come close to your mind. Healthy diet will help you to have a healthy body, skin and mind. Now you know what to do next, don’t you?
